Is open DNS safe to use with my home router?

Is it ok to change my router settings to the Open DNS settings? My dad works from home sometimes and I need to make sure this won’t mess up his VPN conections.

clear it with your dad first, but I use it on my network. it’s faster than most other dns servers.
